Today Phalla tells us about her job as quality controller. By overcoming her professional difficulties, she shows us her strength and determination.

Qualitative products thanks to Phalla’s watchful eye

A happy young mother…

Phalla is a young woman born in Banteay Chhmar. She is an only child and lost her father at a very young age. She lived alone with her mother throughout her childhood. Her mother, like many Khmers, works in the fields in this extremely rural area.

Phalla is now twenty-two. In 2015 she married a man whom she had met in Thma Puok, a village to the south of Banteay Chmar. They are the happy parents of an eight-month old baby daughter.

A responsible job…

Phalla learned to sow through the NGO Enfants du Mékong and started to work in the finishing team for scarves at Soieries du Mékong. Today, her role as a controller is to check the quality of the finished products. She has to oversee scarves washing by the craftsmen, the logo and the pompom sewing, the ironing…

Her main role is to supervise the finishing stages guaranteeing the very best quality. She is also in charge of team training and makes a point of encouraging the artisans to become more responsible.

She had to learn how to mingle and integrate in a team where members were sometimes older and more experienced than her.

A respected environment...

Phalla lives with her family: her mother, husband and daughter. As a great deal of Cambodians and according to their culture, she has great respect for the person who gave birth to her: her mother.

She also regards very highly Samrach, Administrative and Human Resources manager, whom she met through work. His responsible job and his commitment to Soieries du Mékong’s social dimension make him a real pillar of the firm and a role model for Phalla.
