With the support of the charitable foundation - the Fondation d'Entreprise Hermès - the first workshop was built in the village to make supporting the Soieries du Mékong weavers easier.

Village worshop

As part of its ‘Know-how and Skills Transfer’ programme, the Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès supports Soieries du Mékong in its project to develop and pass on the skills and knowledge of silk weaving in Cambodia.

The project operates in two areas: continuing professional training of weavers in weaving techniques and creating village workshops as genuine hubs of village life to improve monitoring and support of the weavers.

Creating village workshops

Until now, weavers have worked from home using traditional looms lent by Soieries du Mékong. The training and supervision team visited once a week to provide one-to-one support. However, the limitations of this arrangement quickly became apparent, given the desire of Soieries du Mékong to train greater numbers of artisans.

The workshops are set up in the heart of villages to bring together 15 weavers under the supervision of a workshop head. The latter is chosen from among experienced weavers who are keen to increase their skills.
